Idiyappam Nirachathu


  • DH Rice Powder (Idiyappam podi) – 2 cups
  • DH Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
  • DH Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp
  • DH Coriander Powder – 1 tbsp
  • DH Chilli Powder – 1½ tsp
  • DH Vegetable Masala – 1½ tsp
  • Carrot – 1 (chopped)
  • Green Peas – ¼ cup
  • Cauliflower – ½ cup (chopped)
  • Chicken pieces (boneless) – ¼ cup (optional)
  • Onion – 2 (sliced)
  • Tomato – 1 (chopped)
  • Coriander leaves – 1 sprig
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Water – as required
  • Salt – to taste
Heat oil in a pan. Add finely sliced onions, salt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and vegetable masala. Sauté well and add chopped tomatoes and coriander leaves. Add chopped carrot, green peas and cauliflower. Pour a bit of water and cook well. The masala should be semi-dry. You can also add boneless chicken pieces to this masala. Boil water with salt and a few drops of oil. Add this to the rice powder and mix into a smooth dough. Oil a steamer/ idiyappam plate. Squeeze a layer of idiyappam. Spread the masala mix on this. Squeeze another layer of idiyappam to cover this and steam cook till done.
