Quick Vegetable Semiya


  • DH Roasted Semiya – 1½ cups
  • DH Turmeric Powder – ½ tbsp
  • DH Vegetable Masala – 1 tbsp (optional)
  • DH Ginger-Garlic Paste – 1 tsp
  • Cashew nuts – few kernels
  • Onion – 1 (chopped)
  • Carrot – 1 (chopped)
  • Beans – 8 (chopped)
  • Coriander leaves – 1 sprig (chopped)
  • Oil – 1½ tbsp
  • Water – 2 cups
Heat oil in a pan. Add finely sliced onions, salt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and vegetable masala. Sauté well and add chopped tomatoes and coriander leaves. Add chopped carrot, green peas and cauliflower. Pour a bit of water and cook well. The masala should be semi-dry. You can also add boneless chicken pieces to this masala. Boil water with salt and a few drops of oil. Add this to the rice powder and mix it into a smooth dough. Oil a steamer/ idiyappam plate. Squeeze a layer of idiyappam. Spread the masala mix on this. Squeeze another layer of idiyappam to cover this and steam cook till done.
